About the conference
Technology is increasingly presented as the cure to our ills. And ill we arguably are, radical inequality continues to grow, the natural world is bulldosed and our climate changes, species die, humans are poisoned, jobs lost and changed, and bombs crush and bullets pierce human flesh.
All of the above relate to sustainable development, and all relate to technology. This conference explores whether technology can be used to fix the very problems caused by technology, and encompasses social, economic, and environmental sustainability.
Suggested thematic areas of interest:
- technology and growth
- high and low technology
- techno-solutionism and techno-fixes
- narratives and perceptions of low technology
- technology and power
- technology and democracy
- radical conceptualisations of technology
- resistance to technology
- scenarios and low technology
- sociotechnical imaginaries
- science fiction and alternative technology
- development, progress and technology
- quality of life and technology
